FAQ & Tutorials
Everything you need to start playing piano with Piano Tab — from your first download to mastering your favourite songs.
Getting Started
Piano Tab is a visual notation system invented by Sean Campbell that replaces traditional sheet music with a simple, colour-coded layout showing exactly which keys to press and when. Instead of reading notes on a staff, you follow a visual "tab" — similar to guitar tabs — making it accessible to absolute beginners within minutes.
No! That's the whole point. Piano Tab was specifically designed so you do not need any music theory background or ability to read traditional notation. You follow the visual layout and start playing real songs immediately.
Any keyboard or piano with at least 49 keys will work for most songs. A standard 61-key or 88-key piano/keyboard is ideal. You do not need a specific brand — any acoustic piano, digital piano, or MIDI keyboard will work perfectly with Piano Tab.
Most students play identifiable melodies within their first 20–30 minutes using Piano Tab. We recommend starting with one of our free beginner songs and watching the companion tutorial video. You'll be amazed how quickly it clicks!
Head to our Learn to Play page — it walks you through the Piano Tab system step-by-step with free songs and tutorial videos specifically designed for first-timers. We also recommend watching the intro video on the homepage to see how it works before you begin.

Yes! Printing is encouraged. Many students prefer placing a printed copy on their music stand while playing. Your personal licence allows unlimited printing for your own personal use. Please do not photocopy or distribute to others.
First, try logging in to your account and accessing My Songs directly. If the file still isn't available, please contact our team with your order email and we'll sort it out immediately — usually within a few hours.
The Piano Tab System
Yes. The Piano Tab notation system is a patented invention by Sean Campbell. It represents a genuinely new approach to music notation — not a variation of traditional sheet music or guitar tabs applied to piano.
Traditional sheet music requires years of study to read fluently. Piano Tab maps directly to the piano keyboard visually — you can see exactly which key to press, for how long, and in what rhythm, all without needing to know what a "treble clef" or "quaver" is. It dramatically shortens the path from beginner to playing real music.
Not at all. Piano Tab builds ear training, rhythm awareness, and finger coordination — all of which are fully transferable to traditional sheet music. Many students use Piano Tab to fall in love with the piano first, then transition to traditional notation with a much stronger foundation than typical beginners.
Songs are arranged to be recognisable and musically satisfying while remaining accessible. We offer a range of difficulty levels — from very simple single-hand melodies for beginners to fuller arrangements for intermediate players. Each song listing notes the difficulty level.
